Flu update for third sector partners

Issue 5   18 January 2010

Welcome

Welcome to our fifth newsletter. Whilst the numbers of cases of swine flu are declining the virus still poses a threat. Therefore we still want to encourage high uptake of the vaccine in the priority groups and communicate that good hygiene practices continue to be important.

This newsletter updates you on the latest swine flu vaccination materials available and includes reminders of other communications tools that can be used for your staff and the people who access your services.

NEW - swine flu vaccination for children

Advertising announcing the availability of vaccine for children over six months and under five years old started on 6 January. Children in this age group have been particularly vulnerable to severe illness as a result of swine flu.

A leaflet has been developed for parents and carers with information about the vaccination and is available on the FTP site.

Respiratory and hand hygiene campaign

Our advertising campaign focuses on how practicing good hand hygiene can slow the spread of swine flu. TV ads, bus and tube posters are all available for you to use and distribute.

We also have posters that clearly identify each stage of the good hygiene process (Catch It Bin It Kill It) that you can use internally in washrooms and other locations.

Pregnant women

Our leaflet 'Swine flu and pregnancy - how to protect yourself and your baby' is still available on the FTP site.

We would encourage all of our partners to distribute it when relevant.

Don't forget

Q&A
The Q+A should answer all of your queries about swine flu. It is updated regularly and can be found on NHS Choices here.

Advertising materials on FTP site
The swine flu advertising materials are all available to be used by organisations like yours. As they are large files they are available to download from a dedicated FTP site.
